Nets at Bucks Recap: Good Signs

Joe Johnson broke the hearts of the Milwaukee Bucks Tuesday night so it was expected that they would come out strong. The Nets also broke that multiple game losing streak against them which added fuel to the fire.

Brook Lopez would go 1 for 7 from the field in the first quarter. The Bucks big men are known for blocking shots and the leader of that held down the paint. Larry Sanders had four of them in the first quarter and a couple were on Lopez. Brandon Jennings scored 11 and the majority of those were fast-break points, coming from missed jump-shots on the Nets part. They would find themselves down by double digits early but C.J Watson brought them back in with eleven points in the second. They would still be down by 12 at the half though. Other than Watson, Deron Williams had a decent stat line with 9 points and 3 assist. Brandon Jennings had 18 points on 7 of 7 shooting. The Nets were shooting 33% from the field while the Bucks shot 62% at the half.

Deron Williams performed in the third quarter. They were facing a another typical loss down by more than ten points, facing a hot Brandon Jennings who netted 26, and a struggling Lopez. Williams was able to hit most of his open shots and make plays while penetrating. His urgency was a key factor in the comeback and it was contagious.  The Nets chipped away at the lead and eventually took the lead. MarShon Brooks scored 7 points in seven minutes. Andray Blatche, Keith Bogans and C.J. Watson took over until late in the fourth and played great all around. Deron Williams's three, to make it 94-83 looked like the dagger but the Bucks made it a two point game with seconds left.  Surprisingly ,C.J. Watson summoned Joe Johnson's powers and scored with 13 seconds left. Monta Ellis had a chance to make this game into another overtime when he got was fouled on a three-point attempt by Deron Williams (although Deron didn't appear to touch him). Ellis ended up missing all three free throws. Deron Williams finished with 23 points and 8 assists. Brandon Jennings finished with 31 points for the Bucks.

The Nets did not look like the "same old Nets" for the majority of the game. They were down and the Bucks made it hard but Deron willed his team to victory. They are a much more talented team but they do not match up well with the Bucks. They have the scoop on Lopez and they have speed. Tonight, the Nets showed their toughness and pulled out victorious even though they had some luck on their side. This can be a good sign by the Nets but we will see Friday. The Rockets gave them a beat down in Houston but things may be different now.
